“Johnny B. Goode led the Lorenianna Evergreens on to the pitch for their debut game against a menacing looking Undead team in pouring rain. Winning the toss Johnny winked at the crowd before asking his opponents to receive.
Jim ad Bob were commentating on the match as the Undead collected the ball without fuss whilst marching down the pitch. Johnny's team didn't have the muscle to oppose them so settled for surgical blitzes on straggling zombies whilst ordering his linelves back to defend deep, waiting for the chance.
Finally, when the Evergreens were backed up almost to their endzone the chance presented itself. The Undead cage had become a little loose and James A. Linelf landed a telling block on the ghoul quarterback. Before anyone could blink Johnny raced cross field leaped over his opponents ready to sweep up the ball and set off for the endzone...but a stray bandage from one of the mummies caught his ankle, knocking him off his stride, in the wet his landing leg slid from under him and the last he remembered was his head racing towards the ground.
Johnny came too as his team's Bloodweiser Babe worked her magic just before the second half was due to start. Anxiously enquiring after the score Johnny was relieved to hear that his team mates had pulled off an unlikely defensive touchdown against the run of play - a long bomb caught in the endzone in the dying seconds by all accounts!
Back to his normal self Johnny led his team out for the second half. The play was set - Johnny would play quarterback whilst his linelves raced forward into catching positions stretching the game. The Undead couldn't reach Johhny in his deep position so tried to cut off his catchers who kept reforming their position as Johnny holding back deep and well out of trouble waved to the cheering crowd. As the clock ticked down Johnny finally saw the opportunity he was looking for and sprinted from deep to wide right ordering cover from his team mates. The Undead were never able to regain position and Johnny was able to delay walking in his first touchdown just long enough for the crowd to enjoy Jake A. Kicker punt one mummy into another for a crowd surf.
