“Goli Otok Katorga watched as the team filed onto the field to face their first opponents. One of his overseers spat in the direction of the opposing fans.
'Elves, boss? You goin' easy on 'em?'
'Just wait and see. This lot av no idea wot they're up against.'
The match began with the Elves receiving the ball and retreating to draw the Orcs in. The Orc pressure began to build, but a clumsy block on one wing suddenly opened up the field and the Elves sprang forward. A quick passing play saw a break deep down field. A desperate defensive effort from the Orcs temporarily thwarted the attack but was not enough to stop a final pick up and score as the first half expired.
'Slippery buggaz ain't they?' Goli Otok Katorga chuckled.
The Skrubz took possession in the second half and formed a huddled mass that began to roll downfield. Though it made good progress, once more the Elves struck suddenly, forcing the ball carrier down and the ball loose. As both teams struggled to get hold of the ball, it spilled into the crowd, and by luck or judgement, it spiralled high and deep into the Orc half, where an Elf catcher quickly pounced on it and ran in for a sucker punch score.
Goli Otok Katorga's laugh echoed across the field.
Desperate to at least save some face, the Skrubz came out for a final possession, and with some big hits on the line, knocked several elves off the pitch and into the injury box.
'Oh I do luv the sound of breaking Elves.'
However, the orcs final desperate efforts to score remained in vain, and the ref blew the whistle to end a scoreless defeat. The players trudged from the field to be greeted by more of Goli Otok Katorga's laughter.
'None of you iz gettin' out of 'ere like that. You'll always be just a bunch of skrubz.'
Some of the players heads sank, while others stared back with hatred.
'Clap 'em in irons! There's mining to be done - and no special treatment for failures.'”
