Chapter X
...And yet the survivors of KhazaDun went out to meet the fell foe, the so-called Slaughterers.
The two sides faced each other across the middle of the field, the perfect sky above giving no hint to the violence about to be unleashed.
Shadowland received the kick and unleashed hell on the brave dwarf front line. Although the flying ball distracted the mighty Gorlock and he did not join in the combat (which was to become a feature of the match).
Spotting a longbeard isolated on the outfield the beastman Darkram lowered his horns and KO'd the doughty Khaz. An early blow. So the violence continue, a melee in the centre while Skarbull, ball in hand, troted back and forth seeking an opening. The dwarves sought to shore up their flanks, the redoubtable Pierz McDourgle kicking the infamous chaos warrior, known only in "the Abyss", squarely knackers, putting him out of action. Horgrim took the opportunity to avenge his comrade striking a mighty blow against Darkram, removing him from the match and pushing back the chaos offensive. It was then that Thorgun the Woeful stepped in to meet thrice-cursed Klask Bloodrage. Well named was he, fair tearing the dwarf's head from his shoulders, screaming his triumph to the skies.
As a hole finally opened in the dwarf centre Shadowland attempted a change of direction. Alas for them, Shadowgor was too focused on the dwarves in front of him, the pass bouncing off his impressive antlers and landing loose. Much to the fury of his coach, the infamous Ragnair.
The Grudgebearers took the opportunity to form up around the ball in a defensive wall, worthy of the heroes of the golden age. Further attempts at handling the ball did not end well for either side and the half ended in yet another melee with the dwarves sticking the boot into an unfortunate Gorhorn.
Now with the restart and yet outnumbered the dwarves launched into a cunning play. They drove down the outfield as the Slaughterers struggled to redeploy their forces at this unexpected turn of speed.
Finally Pierz made a very undwarfly dash for the endzone, alas he was caught just shy and tripped by Scaleaal, a Turncoat of men. The ball went loose again and high, for a moment it seemed all was lost... and Nuffle smiled... it fell straight into the waiting arms of Foreham, he the former blacksmith of KhazaDun. He wasted no opportunity racing it home for the first TD of the Grudgebearers career!
After that some robust defence and lousy luck conspired to deny Shadowland a late equaliser.
In spite of the victory, there was no celebrating in the Grudgebearers dugout. Great was the sorrow and beard tugging for Thorgun, he met his doom well. We shall not see his like again...”
