On paper the Wolfbanes were the favorite for the game, but every match still needs to be played.
The first half started with the Wolfbanes receiving after winning the coin toss. We managed to pick up the ball with the sure hands blodge sidestep ghoul and ran it to relative safety, at times changing between an improvised cage and a loose screen. With two ag5 elves on the opposing side, danger could come out of nowhere. As the turns advanced, the dark elves of 9th Squad Bridgeburners were slowly but steadily grinded down, with some ko's among which the team's only tackler. The Wolfbanes' coach managed to stall until turn 8 before scoring, but had to concede some 1d's on the ball. Luckily for the Necromantics the necessary pow didn't fall.
By the start of the second half the dark elves were down to 8 players. However, they ko'd one of the werewolves on their blitz, thereby reducing the pressure on their team a little. But an unnecessary and unlucky going for it with the ballcarrier in the same first turn resulted in a snake, which pretty much decided the game. After having put a zombie and a wight around the ball, the same blodge sidestep sure hands ghoul managed to pick it up and would never lose it again. By now the dark elves had started to crumble and despite never giving up, they were facing hard odds. We decided to score in turn 6 thinking it wiser to lead by 2-0 than risking an unprobable steal.
The dark elves had two turns left, but didn't manage to score anymore after a long bomb attempt failed in the last turn. Better luck next time!
My first official Fumbbl tournament win! And it happened after facing 4 agility teams (dark elf, skaven, wood elf and again dark elf) with a team I never expected to perform this well. May many more follow!
Thanks to _Argon_ for the match. ”
