A tough matchup against a khemri team with a deep bench and some very solid players.
First half we received and well...it did not go well. We could not remove any Khemri players and quickly lost 2...then 3 players. Down 3 players with the strength of the tomb guardians, we scored on turn 4 - not able to stall or control the pitch in any way at all. The Khemri pushed the ball along the one sideline, but without much protection (they had to dodge AG 2 and gfi just to semi-screen the ballcarier)...Luna responded with the dodge blitz to surf the thro-ra, but the crowd tossed it right in to the Blitz-ra who caught it (6+) then proceeded to dodge away from traffic to score. A heartbreaking end to the half that left it tied up 1-1 going into the second half.
Second half, we kicked off - the Khemri still have their entire team available and received the ball with the score tied and they still had their wizard. It looked grim until the kickoff...we had a perfect defense and the khemri lacked guard. They had 9 on the LOS, so we matched them with everyone on the LOS, but they lacked good blocks. The result was we were able to knock down many of the khermi on our first turn - including removing 2 of them (1 being a tomb guardian)...the khemri were stuck in a close in fight - not able to break contact and we squeezed them until the ball popped free. Managed to surf another tomb guardian and after the wizard helped to free the ball briefly, we secured the ball and then stalled out the half for the win.
One of the tightest games I have played in a while - badly behind going into the second half, to pull out the victory was a surprise. Hats off to our opponent for excellent play in the first half and never giving up. Fun Khemri team you have. Good luck!”
