#1 Cooney – Groin Strain (MNG)
#4 Jimmy Blake – Dead (RIP)
The team's first match as the Mudville Vipers, and whom should it be against? None other than an arrogant High Elf team, here to rub salt in the wounds of the Vipers.

The first half saw the high elves slowly advancing forward as the Vipers pinned the ball carrier along the sideline. An impressive dodging blitz from Sterling wedged the high elf catcher holding the ball against the sideline, and with a little push Wiles, that catcher was introduced to the fans surrounding the pitch. The high elves recovered the ball, but only for a moment before elves started doing what elves do best: passing the ball. Sterling got clear as Flynn completed a pass deep in the high elf half of the field. Sterling took some time showboating before crossing into the endzone to close out the half 1-0.

Setting up an opportunity for a quick score to take the lead 2-0, Sterling was being overly cocky, and therefore bumbled the pick up with defenders close by, and said defenders took full advantage of the mistake to even the score.

Playing down 9-on-11, with a lot of time left in the second half, the Vipers needed to find a way to protect the ball, while making it past the goal line, but limiting how much time the high elves would have to again tie the match. Some good blocks and we were able to even out the player deficit, but we were surrounded, and with no safe place for the ball we made an attempt to break free and clear of the defenders. We got free, be anything but clear, as the high elves blitzed down Flynn holding the ball, pushing him off of the pitch, and with the ball being thrown back in safely where no Viper could reach it. A long bomb screen pass and the ball was in the hands of the high elf catcher, and there was no way to get a hand on that elf. Things were looking very bleak. We gave chase, and to our surprise the ball was thrown back to one of their blitzers, who secured coverage behind some linemen. With the fate of the match at hand King Kelly made a superstar 1d blitz to POW the ball carrier, as Hopper, under heavy coverage, dodge in, picked up the ball, and passed it out to midfield, and into the hands of Barrows. But barrows was blitzed down, the ball was set free, and the high elves recovered again. Would this be how the match would end?

NO!!!

For an eleventh-hour elf ball play was about to begin. Thayer marked the ball carrier, Hopper surfed a blitzer, Barrows redeemed himself by dodging away, and blitzing the ball free. Tripp dodge out of the clutches of the high elves, picked up the loose ball, and running and gunning, threw it over the head of Hopper, and into the awaiting hands of King Kelly. Kelly dashed for the goal line, attempting to put as much distance as he could between the defenders and the ball, but one lone line elf gave chase, and caught up to Kelly, only for the block to roll Skull, reroll, Skull. With that Kelly crossed into the endzone. Final score: 2-1, Vipers.

Good game.
