We were not liking our odds going up against three Claw + MB Chaos Warriors, one with 5 Strength.
We received, marched the field, our Mummies were doing well absorbing hits and doing some damage. We KOed two beastmen and BH two others. When suddenly, Khul-Ahiv, our mummy, was BH on T4. We managed to kill their ball-carrier, Paul, on the next play, allowing us to stall. We got our revenge, as Steve-o used his dauntless to block Mercy (the CW that injured our mummy), seriously injuring him (-AV).
On turn 7, our second (and better) mummy, Mhu was piled-on and killed by the 5 Str Chaos Warrior, Judgment. Things were not looking good for the second half, but we managed to BH another Claw + MB CW on our T8 before scoring the 1-0 go ahead score.
Our mummies had taken quite a beating, but they did quite a bit of damage too, leaving the Chaos team with only 8 players on the pitch, compared to our 11.
We were able to use our numbers to hold them in check, but then a ghoul KOed himself on a failed dodge, and our opponent did a nice job of setting up a surf of one of our Wights. Suddenly the numbers were a lot more balanced, we managed a 2 BD hit on the ball carrier, getting a pow, and putting ourselves in a good position covering up the lose ball... Unfortunately, we exposed ourselves to allow another ghoul to be surfed in the process.
Our best play involved a 1 BD blitz, we Skull -> RR -> Pow causing a casualty, again allowing us to stay near the ball. Our opponents managed to pick-up the ball but failed the GFI when trying to get into scoring range. We failed our pickup but a nice ball bounce left it in a pretty safe position.
Again, our opponents managed to recover the ball but failed their GFI to get into position to score. We were in a great position to make a 2 BD hit and secure the ball, and win the game but we rolled double Skulls! Now all our opponent needed was a 3+ pick-up and a 3+ hand-off to tie the game, but they failed the pick-up ending the game. Wild finish... and Qualifier won!”
