“This was a tale of two halves. We won the toss, elected to receive. The ball went deep. We knocked down the line and scooped the ball, so far so good. The north side of the scrum looked like a draw, the south side we were winning, the Doom Seeker was well positioned to wreak havoc in either direction, so we went south. Well, havoc did he wreak, going maximum distance toward my Blodge carrier and popping the ball on his first GFI, which was also his first shot in range. Lucker. A scrum ensued on the ball, but the Doom Seeker took out both our best Earth Elemental (-MA) and Undine Naiad (BH) and we skulled out early on turn 5, thus lost control of the ball and the drive. We killed a Giant Slayer and got a leaping blitz on the carrier, but the blitz didn't work, and we went into the second half down 0-1, but up men as the Doom Seeker was banned (we both had one KO). The kick was high and deep, and a 9-on-7 scrum ensued at midfield. The oppo failed a GFI trying to form a cage with a blitz action, and we broke the ball out of the cage. They managed to pass it to their remaining Giant Slayer, but Grome blitzed him down and our new Fire Elemental scooped it. From there it was just a matter of Earth Elementals being sticky, as we kept the ball clean to walk in the turn 8 tie. 1-1 tie, record 9-3-4. I've had 3 Guards, none has lasted more than 1-2 games. Two of them took Block first.”
