This game is a "must win" to get the Wild card spot, and the squad is prepared. Dietmar has promised to become tougher, and Anders is still high on last match's great performance. So high, he almost forgot his helmet... Newbies Jeremias and Erhardt are keen to get on the Pitch, and the Coach has promised them playing time.
Grizzlies are receiving, and on comes Erwin to do the kicking. A Perfect kick almost to the Grizzlies goal line, and the match is on. Grizzlies are cautious intheir approach, and advances slowly with Jace Amaro, the agile runningback, as their ballcarrier, while their quarterback is duking it out on the frontline. When Friedrich becomes confused, Dontae slips through the middle and into a scoring position With Amaro behind a screen, ready to feed him the ball. Unfortunately, Marqueston Huff trips over Erwins feet and falls before he can Complete the screen and Amaro is suddenly under attack. Anders pushes away the blocking Emerson, opening up for Turbin's blitz, and a stunned Amaro cannot hold onto the ball, which is promptly grabbed by Tim Hattendorf, the rookie catcher. Dominique Easley, the Grizzlies excellent lineman tackles Hattendorf, but the loose ball is picked up by Turbin and handed over to Nico Krukenberg. Three more Cascade players have arrived, but the Grizzlies are on their heels and Austin Jerkins makes an excellent tackle on Nico. Dontae Johnson manages to grab the loose ball, but Dietmar trips him on his attempt to flee, and Dontae is sent off with a severe concussion. He won't be coming back today, if ever... Nico picks up the loose ball and after a fairly long scuffle, he runs it in to the first TD of the day. The Grizzlies, particularly Austin and Marqueston, fought valiantly, but there were simply not enough Grizzlies present in the end.
Erwin is unfortunately still languishing after being KO'd in the middle of the half, so the kiick is almost to the center of the grizzlies half, and easy to pick up. The Grizzlies gamble everything on a right side cordon with Breeland lurking between the screen and the sideline. Their gamble pay off big time, when Raoul trips himself while trying to run too far...There are no blockers at the sideline in time, and Amaro can simply hand over the ball to Breeland for the TD.
Just enough time left on the clock for a TJ touchdown. The Grizzlies are wise to the tactic and cordons off the goal line, but knowing what's going to happen and managing to stop TJ "The Gazelle" Graham is not the same thing. And sure enough; after a quick pick and pass from Anders to Tillman, a hand-off to Graham and he goes fast, cuts in between Marqueston Huff and Robert Griffin and scores again. 2-1 Cascade! At halftime the prospects are looking good. We are 2-1 in TD's, start with the ball and one of the Grizzlies two star catchers are out for the match.
Anders start by passing the ball off to Tim Hattendorf, who will be out ballcarrier, and we try to advance on our left side. Pretty quickly, we run into a determined defense led by blitzer Emerson Boozer and lineman Ribert Griffin. We simply cannot get through, and every time a Grizzlie is blocked, there always seem to be one more before we are through and free. In desperation, Hattendorf pulls back into our own half, but is followed closely by Austin Jerkins and Andrew Datko. He dodges away from Datko, but short on good options, the only thing he can think of is tossing the ball over Lee Roy's head into the hands of Anders. This is dangerous Territory, as there are four Cascade players and four Grizzlies around where the ball will land, and Anders makes it harder by slipping the ball out of his hands, only to be caught by Vick Ballard. The Grizzlies are on to Ballard, though, and ball posession changes quickly as Ballard is tackled by Easley. Rainer grabs the bouncing ball, only to be sacked by Marqueston who inturn is tackled by Ballard. Amaro then grabs the ball, but he does nolt dare to run with it, and aticks close to the midfield while time is running by quickly. Raoul, who dispatched Datko With a kick to his groin, now brings down Amaro, and Dietmar gets his first real casualty as he sends Easley off with another serious concussion. Hattendorf picks up the loose ball, but Cascade has no one in scoring position. Worse, the Grizzlies has, and when they bring Down Hattendorf, Amaro can get back on his feet, Dodge his way to the ball and pass it on to Larry Grantham. Only a slight inaccuracy prevents the Grizzlies from equalising in the last minutes of the game. Hoffman ends the day with his murderous spearing of Grizzlie hero blitzer Marqueston Huff.
The best Cascade game so far, with a 2-1 victory and 3-0 in casualties, and we ousted the Greenskins from the Conference wild card place. Grizzlies played tenaciously well on the defense, but were a bit too timid on the offense. Now the long trip to Barboa awaits... We need another win to stay in the wild card place, but it should be possible as the Barboza Marauders have the worst record in the Conference.
