After electing to kick, the Machine put up little resistance as Victo scored their first TD of the season turn 8. The dwarfs did a good of job of both guarding approaches to the ball and not grouping players tight enough to make a fireball worth it. Holtby actually got in a -2D blitz that knocked the ball carrier down, but nothing came of it.
Fortunately, the babes restored most of the line up and the humans went for a quick tie. A sprint down the left side that the dwarfs were unable to cut off led to a tie game. Now, 10 on 11, the humans just wanted a chance with a fireball and a player or two that could dart for the ball. They got it, the fireball did its job, and the scatter even put the ball next to Backstrom. He picked it up, darted away from a defender, and threw it down field to Ovechkin. The dwarfs successfully blitzed and knocked the ball loose the next two turns, but finally a double skull gave the humans numbers around the ball and Backstrom a relatively easy scoop for the winning score.
Backstrom's sure hands and 3-for-3 passing definitely keyed the surprise victory. Getting 2.5 games ahead of a tough division opponent is key, but there is no reast for the bloody as yet another bash team awaits week 4. ”
