#5 Justin Gilbert – Fractured Leg (MNG)
#15 Tommy Mason – Dead (RIP)
Expectations were high, Talabheim Sluggers went into the game looking to extend their 100% winning start (1 game!).

Kicking deep to the Averheim River Bandits in the rain for the first drive, Anthony Barr piled on the advancing Louis Murphy in the Sluggers first turn,

Meanwhile star Blitzer Troy Niklas who has a potential suiter in Averheim River Bandits coach FRSHMN having been informed that he is surplus to requirements at the Sluggers needed to impress but sprinting into a sacking position of the ball carrier Ronde Barber he slipped in the rain and put out his hip missing the rest of the game - pretty sure FRSHMN was impressed by his commitment to the River Bandits cause already.

Completely unhurt and undeterred by Barrs tackling, Murphy went on a rampage putting the boot in and killing Tommy Mason and ko'ing other players, still the Sluggers kept up the pressure getting Ronde into tackle zones that his teammates bltized away as much as possible before he danced away from the others.

Ronde thinking he was safe from harm with Warren between him and the Sluggers line taunted the Sluggers, enraged Slug smashed Warren in the legs and took him out for the rest of the game (and next game sadly).

For the rest of the half coach FRSHMN gave a masterclass in controlling a drive and protecting his ballcarrier, an ill advised 7th turn attempt to prevent the Bandits score resulted in Justin Gilbert greeting the fans and he'll now be missing the next game too.

In the 2nd half the Sluggers drove for a turn 3-5 touchdown and hoping to use their guard and strength advantage pulled the bandits into a massive scrum. The Bandits were able to slow and halt the drive in the scrum but were losing players fast.

Unfortunately for the Sluggers the lone Bandits guard was able to get away from Slug and assist his teammates in a vital turn, allowing Ronde to once again scoop up the ball and make a get away (I just couldn't touch Ronde this game - he was leading a charmed life)), Joel Bitonio made a break from the scrum to chase down Ronde but a flailing leg from a bandit player caused him to trip - Ronde made a break for it, Slug caught him with a massive hit but amazingly Ronde stayed on his feet, the crowd were going wild would Ronde make it?

Ronde broke free of Slug (he really needs tackle) and was paces from the Sluggers endzone, the Sluggers steriod abusing catcher Marvin McNutt raced towards Ronde but critically slipped on the blitz gfi and went down, Ronde walked in his 2nd score of the game to make it 0-2.

#2 Derrick Brooks (LB) #55 – Smashed Ankle (-MA)
#3 Warren Sapp (DT) #99 – Fractured Arm (MNG)
First half may have looked like a cake walk, but it surely wasn't. As much as Anthony Barr was a constant threat, Justin Gilbert was annoying. I was very lucky once he was out for signing the merchandize of some Talabheim fans. Same goes for Troy Niklas, who could have been a game changer but was out by turn 3.

Second half saw my Bandits caught in an ugly mosh pit situation, with the Talabheim guarders in great positions. It took some wild one-dice block action to clear a path to the ball carrier (block/dodge catcher), which finally was brought down by my one and only tackler, Derrick Brooks. A shame he later lost some -Ma in a totally nuts one-dice block, which skulled. A real pain in the ass he will miss the next game against Nuln (along with my franchise Ogre Warren Sapp).
As it was still raining, the pick-up attempt was nothing but sure, but Ronde Barber did it with bravour, retreated to the own endzone, before sprinting all over the field for the touchdown in turn 8 of second half. With two touchdowns and 39 rushed yards, he was the corner stone of Averheim's success.
To everyone's surprise, the audience selected 2nd thrower Ryan Griffin for MVP... must have been for his outstanding motivational yelling from the side lines throughout the entire game, as he was one of only two River Bandits that didn't see a single turn on the pitch.

An important, but nonetheless hard fought win. Looking forward for the two rematches next year. Oh, and welcome onboard, Troy Niklas ;)
