We had EVERY opportunity to put a tie up. 1-0 at start of 2nd, chainsaw and bomber coming to play, numbers advantage.
Turn 1, try to pick up ball, fail. No reroll used.
Turn 2, try to pick up ball, use RR. Success. Move ball forward.
Ball comes out, but in a really great situation for me.
Try to pick up ball, fail. Use RR. Fail.
Try to pick up ball, fail. Use RR, successful. Get ball going forward.
Turn 7, try to hand off ball. Fail. No rr's.
Turn 8, try to pick up ball. Fail. End of match, and I don't get a score.
Yes, I should have scored with the already very good goblin who wound up with the ball (Mighty Blow, JU). I tried to hand it off to the Bomber to get him some points. That part is completely my choice/fault, so it is what it is, and I live with the loss as such.
Sableheart played this VERY well. All sorts of Elf traffic jams to keep me from getting a sniff of the ball in the first half. Held on to it to force me to burn a weapon on turn 8, which ended up being the Fanatic, but not before he scored a CAS (and turns out, the MVP!).
What I am learning rapidly while playing these guys is that when you have an opportunity to score, you DO IT. You don't hang around to decide "well, I really wanna score with this other guy".. Not with Goblins, you take the TD's right away. The weapons may go, but you worry about that later. Just score.
Thank you again, Sableheart for a fun, educational match. I'm learning as I go about the nuances of playing these guys, and they are a lot of fun.
