#7 Frrowno Grrutza – Dead (RIP) #8 Grrotzra Orrfung – Fractured Leg (MNG)
“Okay... this is an update (edit) of the previous report.
How childish it may seem... this game gave me quite the adrenaline rush.
My opponents' win record was quite impressive. Being 12/5/1 ... so it was clear he was a foce to be reckoned with. His Chaos won the dice roll... and I started off kicking the ball towards him. I told him I was lucky having the MB/Claw beastman missing the game because of a previous SI.
But with the first blocks... I already see one of my Chaos Dwarves being hurt. In this game, I was constantly behind on guys. My opponent positioned really well, and I had to respect his "frenzy", "tackle" and +ST guy all the time, making it hard to protect the widezones.
He advanced with a steady march, breaking armour along the way. My Blodge Bull Centaurs only got a few blitzes against them, but they fell like dominoes. He scores quite early for a bashing team, giving me a small chance to make another TD in the first half. 0-1
During my next offence (still 1st half) I advanced, caged... and hoped something goes wrong at the other side. My opponent positioned and screened like a boss, but one chaos warrior had to dodge free to make the defence near perfect. He failed a 3+ dodge (with reroll) leaving me an opportunity to exploit. My guys knocked over the only guy defending the endzone, and my centaur walked in (with GFI) for the touchdown. 1-1
During my offence (second half) I blocked down the guys on the line of scrimage... recovered the ball, try to set up a bit safe and blitzed with a centaur. He ended up doing 2x GFI to get back into position, and rolled snakes breaking his armour on the astrogranit.
Desultory choice to put pressure on one of my flanks... tangling up most of my guys giving me fairly little choices in my next turn. With the bull centaur on the ground just turning up "prone" in my turn, and all my guys tangled up... there was no one left to protect the ball carier. However, with the chaos player pushing a most of resources to one side, the back field was only protected by the ST4 beastman, and 1 tackle guy who was holding his own against some hobgoblins.
So I had the choice of going for it... and hoping "blodge" would stand his own this time... Or waiting another turn, and hoping that I could rally my forces after his turn (where he could bash and get back into position). I decided waiting was the worst option... so I gambled on the blodger.
I made a gap... and sprinted as far as I could (without waisting the sure feet reroll). Then I tangled up the guys that could blitz the ball carier... screening the tackler with 2x Hobgoblin... and putting all the other blitz oppotunities in a tackle zone. At least making him roll dice before he attempts the blitz. If the ball carrier would go down, I would have some hobgoblins + Bull centaur (standing up) that could come to the rescue.
Next turn was crucial for the win situation on his side... he blocked most people free, but had to use a reroll while doing so. His ST4 guy made a run for it, blocked, and got "skull + both down". The centaur was SAFE. If I could avoid snakes in the nex turn I made a touchdown. And that's what happened. 2-1
His offence again... he had manny turns left in the 2nd half. So he could choose to score quick and go for 2-3 ... or try to mark late and get a 2-2 (most reasonable score in this position) draw. We discussed it in chat, and he appeared to be happy with the 2-2, while I was happy not loosing with all the guys I lost so far to his blocks.
We played the caging and rolling game again. He moved up towards my endzone... I tried to defend to the best of my posibilities with the guys I had left + the inspiration I got at the moment. And in turn 6 he scored a Touchdown. 2-2
Still 2 turns on the clock... but things looked desperate for either of us to win. Chaos put up his defence, guarding the middle, while I put my offence hoping to take the widezones, and hoping for a miracle.
Turn 7 was just running in 2 hobgoblins as far as they could... putting 1 bull centaur in scoring position. And picking up the ball with another Centaur. The ball carier at this point, was positioned poorly... he should have been 1 square more towards his endzone, so he would be able to attempt the desperate pass. I had one hobgoblin standing in position... but that means an extra roll (3+) for the hand off.
My opponent screened off most of my guys, and blocked one of the potential score players down. He didn't position annyone for an 8turn score on his side, so it was all up to desperate stuff on my side being the only one that could still score.
So the sequence was:
1. Try to do the hand off... if this fails, there was no reason for my bull centaur to be standing in the endzone waiting for a crowd push in the 8th turn.
2. Dodge (2+ with break tackle, no reroll because of tackle)
3. 1D block needs any pushback result (I rolled "both down" and rerolled into push)
... I choice not to folow up, since I could "sprint" in the endzone, and have a reroll left with "sure feet".
4. 3x GFI (with sure feet)
5. Run up the hobgoblin PASS (long bomb range) (6+ OR miraculous scattering ball in the hand of the centaur) + FAILED interception
6. Catch (4+ for accuarte, 5+ for innacurate or bouncing ball)
And that part all worked out. "Saladabara" made a long bomb in his first game... trew it right in the Bullz Eye. The touchdown was a miracle (in blood bowl terms) and the long bomb could not be defended against. Just the right string of dice at the right time. 3-2
The game was insane... and left me trembling for a few minutes.
Apperently he could do a 1 turner (something I didn't respect in the 8th turn set up)... but a "pow" that was not rerolled kinda stopped that miracle from happening.
My opponent maximised blocks... and got some early hurting hits. The armor rolls left me with a team that was constantly behind on players.
My good dice accumulated on the ball handeling. Hand offs, dodges, go for its didn't fail on anny player holding the ball. Which gave me the opportunity to fight back.
I believe this was a really well played game from my opponent. He played better then me, and exploited my weak spots. I tried to exploit his if I found anny. I did gamble, but being low on guys makes it hard to keep the ball carrier trully safe and caged in. So sometimes you have to.
The string of dice in the last round (according to the samba generator from El Youkey - http://www.elyoukey.com/sac/)
3+ hand off, 2+ dodge, 1D block (pushback result needed 4/6), GFI+GFI+GFI (Sprint + Sure Feet Reroll) + Long Bomb Pass 6+ (or crazy scattering - FAILED interception) + 4+ catch (or 5+ if it starts scattering + bouncing) for all this I had 1 team reroll
Without the crazy scattering or bouncing rolls... it calculates between 6-7 % chance of happening.
If i didn't take the risk... I would have screwed up the opportunity... If I took it and it worked I won the game. So I kinda had to try the seemingly impossible. This time it worked out.
Thanks to Desultory for the great game. I believe you played it realy good. This game was tense and I came out lucky at the end. I wish you and your chaos good luck out there in the box!
