Weather was a blizzard, which probably favoured the faster elves, but also may have been a bit of an equalizer limiting the amount of frivolous go-for-its. The woodelves received.
Their thrower hung back in their own end, while their catcher ran around our end zone. We marked their catcher with a tackling wolf, and proceeded to try and pin-in their elves. We registered a T2 RIP on a skill-less lineman, which upped our bench to 13, giving the possibility of more freedom for fouling any key players. They managed an in-traffic pass/catch to get an early score.
We managed a KO on T3, followed by another KO on T5. We were careful to move our guards in such a way as to protect ourselves from the 5 ag leaping guard and wardancer(s)... They attempted to anyways and succeeded with a 1BD pow on our ghoul, but left themselves quite exposed in doing so.
This allowed for us to surf and MNG their super star thrower, we picked-up another casualty on the following turn, but having failed two straight ball pick-ups, we put ourselves in a tough position to equalize.
We managed to surf their dancer and regain the ball but missed the easy quick-pass which would have tied it up 1-1 (and given our Wight a SP roll).
To start the second half, we opened with a wardancer KO, leaving only a single wardancer on the pitch. On T2, we blitzed and seriously injured their 4 Str blodge lineman, giving him -1 Av.
T8 rolled around and we had an easy 3 BD with RR shot at their catcher. As OT was looming, we were worried about the possibility of kicking to the elves and having them elf-us with their catcher/movement and steal a win, so we opted for the 3 BD blitz, knowing that a push would result in a frenzied GFI attempt. We rolled triple push... And got worried... We RRed... Another triple push... This forced us to attempt a gfi with no RR in the blizzard, a terrible coaching error that easily could have cost us a game we otherwise had no business losing, thankfully we succeeded the gfi, got the knock down (no damage). We, thankfully, scored T8 to tie it up 1-1.
We won the toss in OT and received facing 5 woodelves, two of which were wardancers. On our opening turn, we injured their catcher and knocked down/fouled the wardancer, only resulting in a stun. We were able to repeat foul their wardancer, a total of 3 times, stunning him each time. Allowing us to run around their one treeman and 2 wardancers to get behind their lines of defence and walk in for the game winning OT score.”
