#5 Pearl – Dead (RIP)
“Despite the wait, (which may have explained the lack of Spectators!), this first Agility Beads final had a lot of everything going on.
The first half saw the NPG make their way slowly downfield, waiting for an opportunity to sneak through a hefty Runners' defence. Classic elf ploys and counter-ploys, feints and pushes were employed, until finally Roxanna leapt in to try and pressure the ball. The Player Formerly Known As kept his head however, and Moranion took Roxanno down for the count. Player then strolled in for a touchdown, and the crowd took to rioting in the stands...
...which 'encouraged' the officials to put up an unprecedented amount of inury time on the match clock!
Roxanna's Runners (sans Roxanna!) did not squander the opportunity. NPG's solid defensive effort was marred by a couple of belated casualties, and the scores were equal moving into half time.
In the second half, the Runners (still without Roxanna who clearly felt she'd earned a half-time kip), really hit their straps - and their opponents. A spirited, outnumbered defence had the Runners scoring with plenty of time for an equaliser...
The whistle blew, and the Runners (now led again by Roxanna) surged forward, eager for the ball and a TD that would seal the match in regulation time. NPG stayed calm, the cool leadership of the Prince showing the way forward - the Runners had overcommited, so N. Scoringmachine dropped back, scooped the deep kick and hurled a perfect spiral into the waiting arms of Little Red, who rushed in a score-levelling TD.
With time running down and both teams tiring, the scene looked set for an Overtime finish... and then the fans decide to riot AGAIN, giving the Runners the much needed extra time to seal the win.
...and it looked like a sure thing to - 3 elves on the pitch in defence, and the ball in the right part of the pitch. And then? Well, maybe Roxanna had a clause in her contract that ensured a bonus if the game went to overtime. That fumbled pass should not have happened, but happen it did!
Overtime then. Runners get the coin toss, and of course elect to receive. This time, NPG got the Blitz! Moranion wrestled an Amazon down, creating a hole, and the remaining NPG players ran for the ball like only Elves can, but it was to no avail. Runners swarmed, boxed the Pros in and Roxanna marched across the line for the win...
