We hired Hubris Rakarth as a mercenary for the match, his 4 str, block, MB, Jump Up, and most importantly strip ball would be very useful.
We kicked to start, and managed a 2 BD Hubris block, push and strip of the football. We were not able to recover, but thankfully, Hubris was prone but in the TZ of the football, we were able to blitz our way through and get him a jumped up 2 BD which again freed the ball. This time, we were able to scoop it up and eventually score a defensive TD.
We had a great defensive kick which would make a return score difficult for the undead team. They did well to recover the ball, pass it around and give themselves an opportunity. We didn't optimize our blitzing on T7, but still gave them some tough rolls to try and tie it up. They ended up failing, but managed to seriously injure Hubris in the process. He did his damage though, giving us a 1-0 lead heading into the half, while receiving.
We did our best to spread them out in the second half but were struggling to do so. Our players started dropping faster than we would have liked. We ended up fumbling a 4+ pass for the potential game winning 2-0 score, leaving it wide open for the undead team to get a late score.
We were able to get a few bodies (with side step) in somewhat annoying positions, but they were able to pick it up, dodge and gfi to score on T8 and tie it up.
We received in OT but were down 11 vs 8 in numbers. A short kick + a blizzard encouraged us to get the ball to our witch elf and push deep. With both teams out of RRs, they missed a 2 BD blitz on our ball carrier and were forced to attempt 2 GFIs to avoid our easy 2+ dodge. They failed their second GFi attempt, allowing us a 2+ auto RR dodge skill. We rolled a 1 on the first dodge but managed to succeed with the RR and score for the game winning TD.
Ironically, had they not attempted the two 3+ gfis in the blizzard, we would have failed our dodge. Although, in that case, we likely would have take 2+ auto-RR dodges to try and setup a blitz to free up our ball carrier.
In the end, we would like to thank StanRichardson for not taking advantage of the recent conversion to Expensive Mistakes, which created a situation whereby if he didn't dump tons of gc's into inducement he'd anyways lose it (without me being able to match it). He opted to not be overly zealous, which kept the TV-spread fair and ultimately led to a competitive game. Great sport! Thanks for a great game, and a wild finish.”
