So my first excuse for this game is that I haven't played high elves for a long while, and I don't play them very well even when I try. Secondly, sulidamor is a very good coach and plays a very tough game. Even at the top of my game I would have been hard-pushed to get a draw here, let alone a win, so it's not as if I feel the result is in any way unfair.
But even given those two factors, I really didn't have anything to be happy about here. The first kick-off result was blizzard, so my passing game was out right from the start. I hate blizzard, but to be fair, I only got three very short turns on offence anyway, so it's not as if the blizzard prevented me from throwing any passes later in the game. Then I managed to fail every important dodge and gfi I attempted for the rest of the half. Fair enough, going for it in a blizzard is a desperate move, but it's still a 2/3 chance of success, and dodging with AG4 and 5 is almost a sure thing most of the time. So unsurprisingly I was somewhat unimpressed with my dice.
Added to this was the fact that I managed to roll a grand total of 2 POWs in the entire game - and one of those was on a -2d block, so it had no effect.
By the time the second half came along, I was down a few players, and this became a few more, and then a few more. Clearly sulidamor decided he wanted to try and clear the pitch, because he began gang-fouling loners - although to be fair, there was nothing else for his players to be doing as every time he blocked me I fell over and then usually left the pitch in one way or another. Sadly, he didn't succeed, and only made 10 out of 11 - my thrower -3d blitzing his way out of a tight spot to survive the slaughter. (I was going to say he was last man standing, but as he spent most of the half with his face in the dirt, this would be a bit of poetic license.)
So all-in-all, a disappointing and fruitless game. It reminded me why I don't usually play high elves and it will probably be the reason I don't play them again for a while. It wasn't a painful game at all - the only SI's were journeymen - but I lost a FF and only won 10K and no one skilled up. So now the team is even more mediocre than it was before.
To tell the truth, the only reason I played with them in the first place was because I couldn't find a decent game for my wood elves. No insult to sulidamor, who played exactly the game his team was designed to win and who did so clinically and effectively, but I think I'd have had more fun if I'd stayed on Gamefindrer for another hour!”
