“Having been on the end of some really bad dice in my previous game, I know what it feels like when nothing goes your way. It was like that for TheGe for his first few turns here, and I sympathise. There's no other reason for the fact that after 6 turns I was 3-0 up, and especially against four gutter runners that probably could have beaten me on their own.
But when you only have 11 players and two of them get taken out of action on the first turn, and then two more get taken out a couple of turns later, it doesn't matter how good the rest of your team is, you're going to have an uphill struggle for the rest of the game.
A blitz on my first kick-off helped, as did the successful diving tackle on his ball carrier when he had no other players far enough back to help out, but so did the fact that my wood elves were determined to stay on the pitch, despite a determined effort from an evil skaven blitzer with tackle and MB.
So it was impressive to see TheGe make such a good attempt at a recovery. He got in his first score right at the end of the half, and a second after receiving the kick to start the second half. A lucky blitz or some bad dice from me could easily have seen him level the scores at this point, but it was not to be. My dice were still glowing (in a good way) and the luckiest block of the game allowed me to knock over his side-stepping diving tackler and run in my 4th score.
The rest of the half was fast and furious, but surprisingly unremarkable, with no more scoring and no more injuries.
It was a pleasing win for me. I earned enough cash to be able to afford a third catcher, got back some fans and finally managed to give one of the wardancers tackle. Suddenly I have something resembling a proper team once more. No journeymen for the next game. Woo Hoo!”
