Fortunately, Relezite came along with the Slim Chance Brigade just as I was about to accept an offer from a team of fouling vampires, and as I've previously lost plenty of enjoyable games with Relezite, I thought I'd go that way instead.
It says something about my skill level that I managed to lose such a one-sided game, but lose it I did, and quite comfortably at that - the score is only that close because Relezite chose to stall out both halves for the win and I was in no position to one-turn for a draw against a front line of sidesteppers. I must confess to having been a little bit vindictively brutal while the ball was paused outside my endzone, but then I do hate stalling, and if I can't get the ball, then I'll try for some tree blocks instead.
Actually, I did try for the ball as well, and both times I made a fair effort to upset the Brigade's plans. In the first half, I blitzed the ball-carrier off the pitch, scooped up the ball and got it to halfway. But with one turn left I was faced with a dilemma. I could either keep one of my catchers in position where he was protecting the ball-carrier and go for a 1-0 lead at the half, or I could move him downfield into a position from where he could score. Never being much of a conservative player, I opted for the latter plan. There then followed a blitz, a dropped ball, a pick-up, a pass across field, a catch, a run, a hand-off, a walk-in for the score.
Meh. It was a good play and a pleasure to watch and it was about the only bit of really good dice Relezite had had all half. You don't often see a triple skull, or so many push back results, or so many failed armour and injury rolls, but they were coming thick and fast in this game and the wood elves made hay while the sun shone - (and the sun really is shining today, in the real world, where it's the hottest day of the year so far. So why am I sitting inside playing Bloodbowl? Hmmm.)
So anyway, after a bit more elf-bashing I got myself into position for one final dash at trying to stop the final score. It was a neat play - even if I do say so myself - and gave me a two dice blitz, with a reroll, on the ball-carrier.
But it was not to be, so 2-1 it was.
Not much air time today. In fact, both my throwers spent more time blocking than they did passing, but it was a clean sheet as far as injuries go so no complaints.
Okay, that's enough for now. Time to go and enjoy the sun.
