Well, I suppose I have to play something, otherwise I'll never get him back, and madvig was happy enough to oblige with a typically fast and furious match that saw the wood elves out-passed, out blocked, out-dodged and generally outclassed and outplayed.
It doesn't really matter. No one died (although now my thrower is back he's going to have to do without two of his prime targets next time out), and I scraped together enough cash afterwards to be able to afford the second wardancer - so maybe he can play as a catcher for a game.
As for the game itself, Cubic received and set their stamp on the game with a nice quick score and a serious injury. Sensation the replied, and although it was also a quick score, I lost the second of my catchers along the way so things were looking bleak.
But actually, I managed to (briefly) get my hands on the ball and there was the chance for an upset score until I failed a go for it and madvig made sure I couldn't get the ball back for my final turn. Still, I had managed to stop Cubic on their offensive drive, and I was set to receive after the half...
...so, blitz. Gutter runners with the ball. Quick score. Reset.
And the rest of the match was my attempt to cobble together some sort of offensive drive while my dice abandoned me. I pretty much failed every roll that mattered, and quite a few that didn't, including a triple skull on a tree block that I managed to reroll with PRO and then only rolled two skulls...result!
In the end, the best I could do was get the ball somewhere near one of my players, somewhere near the shaven endzone, but madvig had no problem stealing it away from me and running in an extra score on his final turn.
So as I say, I was outplayed and - if you're feeling generous - out-lucked. It's good to have the thrower back, but it cost me a couple of missing catchers and a bunch more fans. My fan factor is now so low it's verging on the pathetic and I really need a couple of wins to get me back on track. Luckily though, there seems to be no shortage of teams eager to play a bunch of weak wood elves, no matter how low their FF!
Quick lunch break now, and then I'll see if I can squeeze another game in before the kids get back from school.
Beats working.”
