“It was a good game - for me, anyway. Not so great for panalukidis though, as he was forced to suffer his way through endless turns of poor dice, only to see the wood elves wander in and score, time after time, with barely a bad roll all game.
The first score came early, after a miscount from panalukidis left his lone deep ball-carrier one square too far forward, allowing me to get both my MA9 players down to her and blitz her to the ground.
After that, the dark elves were playing catch-up, and could have done so with ease, except for the fact that none of their blocks (even the ones with tackle and MB) was having any effect on the flimsy wood elf armour.
Also, turnovers. The dark elves were plagued by them, and always when the wood elves were in a good position to capitalise. And for the wood elves, capitalising meant throwing another long bomb and running in the score.
Towards the middle of the second half, the dark elves finally found some good dice and although they still couldn't injure their opponents, they did at least manage to avoid any turnovers for long enough to get in their first score.
But then things settled back to normal. The turnovers continued and the perfect passing game of the wood elves continued as well.
And then right at the end, when it no longer made a difference, I finally muffed a catch, allowing a dark elf blitzer to run right across the field and collect the ball, then long bomb a lateral into relative safety. Only relative, however, because the poor ball carrier then failed a go for it, leaving the ball sufficiently exposed to allow my thrower to have another go and allow the catcher to redeem himself with a final score.
So a great result for us, and it only came at the cost of a -AV on a lineman, but what a terrible show for panalukidis and his excellent team who really had the worst of it today. As he said though, he'd had all the luck in his previous match, so it was swings and roundabouts.
In fact, I would like to add that panalukidis was an excellent opponent throughout. He had a perfectly valid reason for raging, but never did, preferring to laugh at his own misfortune rather than blame me for my offensively good dice. It is always nice to play against such coaches, and I will happily rematch him whenever he feels like it.
And if he beats me 6-1, or wipes out half my team...swings and roundabouts!”
