My first turn was terrible - I rolled three dice and they were all 1s - but I did manage to get a little bit better in the following couple of turns, and scored after some nifty play from my journeymen.
After that, it was all dark elves for the rest of the half - even on my next offensive drive, which ended with a failed gfi and a KO on the thrower - and then they got the ball back for the start of the second half, so before I could draw breath I was 1-3 down.
And then 1-4 down (I can't even remember how that one happened). And then very nearly 1-5 down when the dark elves rolled a blitz and the kick landed comfortably into the hands of a witch elf. But sadly for her, she happened to be standing behind my tree, and a quick 3-dice block luckily gave me the opportunity to get in a quick pass with the rookie wardancer, run a lineman downfield and hope for the best.
Needless to say, I began my final turn with the ball safely in the hands of a dark elf blitzer.
But all the luck I'd been missing out on for the rest of the game came back to me when I needed it (or when it no longer mattered) and I was able to pass every single one of my go for it rolls, wrestle the ball free, pick-up and hand off with a journeyman and catch the hand-off in a TZ and then dodge out for the score with another journeyman.
And said journeyman then went and picked up the MVP.
Note to self: Check you have enough gold to buy a lineman before you go and give the MVP to a journeyman!
On a slightly less stupid note, this game saw Briskbreeze ease his way up to number 5 on the all-time Highest Passing list. Sadly, (and surprisingly) he's still only just over halfway to the top spot - but I only have myself to blame for that ;-)
