#2 San – Smashed Hand (MNG) #14 Father Christmas – Dead (RIP)
“Ever had a game where you felt "damn, I should have won that, if it wasn't for the dice!"
... that wasn't this game. Although things started off badly (a lineman killed and zombified on the 2nd or 3rd hit of the game), we really weren't playing very well, and it was pretty kind of the terrifying necromantic horrors against us that they went straight for a score in the 4th turn and didn't stall.
We couldn't do much in the rest of the first half apart from Johnny doing his best impression of an elf in an attempt to get more credit from the coaching board.
Then in the second half we got things going for a while, and with a bit of luck and some more elfball antics, shifted the ball up the pitch and scored. AG4 Orc blitzers with tackle are pretty good, it turns out, at shifting ghouls out of the way.
Hopeful we could hold to a draw, we made the mistake of kicking to one flank. The ball landed by the touchlines, then bounced out of play, gifting a touchback to the Nqattak bicciet. We still had one chance for Johnny to dodge through and tackle their ball carrier. Stupidly, having managed to dodge through several tackle zones and roll a push, we rerolled that to a skull and let them skip past to victory, when a tackle orc should have made a good job of preventing their ghoul getting past.
And we had a spare reroll left at the end! Clearly not taking enough risks somewhere.
Good game, helpful and patient opponent when I had to run away part way through for some childcare trouble..”
