All in all the Woad Elves rolled hardly any 1s for dodging. And despite suffering a few cas were very fortunate that attrition basically didnt play a factor in the match due to their armour being unexpectedly resilient in the key moments.
But more than anything the match turned on a desperate 2d block (defender advantage) made with only 5 usable players on the pitch facing 10 dwarves. The ball was knocked loose and bounced into the catcher's mitt. Moments later after another 2 switches in posession the ball was downfield in front of another catcher who was unreachable. We ran the ball into the end zone to take it into overtime. Woad Elves lost the toss.
I imagined that this time the dwarf meat grinder would not fail and we would lose the game. Incredibly though we managed to reposess again and punted. At this stage it looked good for us as we had a massive territory/speed advantage. Unfortunately we could not make it pay and after a failed pass by the little fellers overtime finished leading to the coin toss which incredibly the Woad Elves won. We had possessed the ball for about 1/3rd of the match but squeaked home 2-1 winners.
We were v lucky in many ways although in the second half and in overtime our basic positioning was pretty strong making it very hard for our opponents to solidify into a powerful cage. By splitting the confrontations down to more 1 on 1 or 2 on 2s we were able to slightly reduce the effect of all the guard and leave holes for the cage breakers to hopefully exploit. We had some skill, but without some very key rolls it wouldnt have meant too much. Mind u that dodge fail in the 1st half was pretty brutal too!
Many thanks to Arturidas for what was a proper nail biter (nice to have been involved in one), it was most definitely not a coaching loss but a dices one.
