After last Autumn's season, which earned the Meddlers a second place - just like Spring and Summer had before - Timaris Stormwing's objectives were a recovery game to prepare the Meddlers for the upcoming Spring season. That's where the elves would have to shine! The Dukes of Earthquake Valley accepted the Meddlers' challenge and would face the wood elves' only friendly game this winter.
The wood elves started ferociously, causing two casualties in the opening turn and adding a knock-out in turn two before running in the opening touchdown: 1-0 in turn 2. The Dukes aimed for a quick equalizer, but Nuffle would heavily favor the hard-hitting Meddlers this game. A high elf catcher was knocked out in turn three, complicating the Dukes' offensive drive. Not long after that, they snaked a dodge, which would lead to the loss of the ball. Things were going very well indeed for the Meddlers. "Finally Isha's light shines upon us," Timaris Stormwing smiled. "It's just a friendly game, I'm aware of that", he added when addressing his assistant coach. "But it doesn't hurt either", he smiled to himself. Then the Dukes' hired wizard launched a fireball, knocking over three Meddlers, including Nimrodel who had stolen the ball one turn earlier. But once more Nuffle intervened, allowing Aetharon to intercept a safely thrown pass! "Miraculous indeed!", Timaris shouted. "That must have hurt their pride", his assistant added. By turn 7 Aetharon ran in another touchdown: 2-0 for the Meddlers. Despite being seriously outnumbered, the Dukes managed to score as well. With the help of Eldril Sidewinder's hypnotic gaze, Swan Alphon managed to receive a pass while being surrounded by wood elves, before dodging out and securing the 2-1 at half-time.
Bad luck would continue to pursue the Dukes in the second half. After having pushed through the Meddlers' defensive lines, Heni Hethurin fumbled his pass and lost the ball. His evening was truly cursed. When Swan Alphon knocked the ball loose out of Mereia's hands the next turn (knocking her out of the game in the process), Heni snaked a dodge, preventing the Dukes from recovering the ball. An intercepted pass, a fumbled throw and a snaked dodge. Truly, this wasn't Heni's night. There's only so much bad luck one can deal with. By this time, the Dukes' morale had been crushed completely. The Meddlers stalled the remaining turns before running in the final touchdown.
A 3-1 win for the Meddlers!
And ready to claim Athel Loren's Spring trophy!
