The level of violence here was unrelenting, not just with the injuries, but also the constant stream of KOs all the way through. But apart from that, there was also a lot of elfy ball play and things ran along at a fair old pace for most of the game.
Sensation received and scored quickly - thanks in part to a misclick from Thoriin which lost him his blitz on his first turn of defence. I threw a long bomb to a journeyman and just ran it in to get things going. (If only he hadn't died later on, I might have tried skilling him up!)
In reply, Thoriin played a more gradual offence, ignoring my blitz and keeping the ball nice and safe while he KOd most of my players - apart from my catcher, who had already managed to fail a GFI and lose a point of AG with his serious injury. So my dreams of fielding two catchers at the same time has had to be shelved once again. Anyway, with so many players in the KO box, Thoriin thought it would be wise to delay until the half and deny me a second attempt at getting them all back. As it turned out, all but one of them returned anyway.
I began the second half with my second blitz result on the kickoff, but again, I couldn't really do much with it and Thoriin scored easily enough in two turns. I then did the same, thanks in part to the double KO Spiderplant inflicted with his multi-block (including on the opposing tree!)
But the injuries continued for Sensation, and I was in no position to prevent the go-ahead score from Thoriin. Instead, as I still had three turns left, I thought I'd get it back to 3-3 with my next drive. And it was all looking so great until the deep thrower was blitzed by someone who could run even further than he could - ah, those pesky wood elves and their sprinting! - and what with him being all alone, there was no chance for me to do anything about giving up another score.
So at 2-4 down, and with little more than half a team left, I thought there was no point in trying for a 1-turn TD and just went for the long bomb for stats...and a pointless final multi-block just because why not. And sure enough, I managed to inflict a serious injury. And sure enough, the apo completely failed in his one job and offered to kill his patient instead.
So 3-3 would have been nice, but 2-4 was, I think, a fair result, seeing as how I was fielding a bunch of amateurs and was never able to get far enough away from the opposition to give me the safety I like for my thrower. That being said, he had a reasonable enough game anyway, with 4 for 40, and Spiderplant took the MVP yet again. He's now only 80 MVPs behind my previous tree!
So next time out I have a rookie catcher yet again, as well as the usual five journeymen, but I can live with that.
Thanks for a fun game, Thoriin, and I'll come looking for those high elves soon.”
