At least that what it felt like. My legendary thrower put in perhaps his worst performance ever - and that includes his previous game where he was turned into a toad and then badly hurt by the end of turn 2. Here his first attempt to throw was intercepted by an orc in a tackle zone - despite safe throw. Ah well, it happens occasionally. But then fumbled a pick-up a couple of turns later while trying to make amends. Finally, after a lot of effort from the wardancers to get the ball back, he fumbled a hand-off which might have resulted in a TD (though he would have had to make a throw as well, which clearly was a big ask today) and so both teams went into the second half scoreless.
But now the orcs were receiving. And I had four players BH. And the orcs had a chainsaw.
But now it was the orcs' turn to roll some bad dice. Turnovers came thick and fast and luckily Spiderplant took out Bolgrot with his first punch, so I had something resembling a defence with which to try and stop the green tide. And the AG5 wardancer was amazing from this point on. He didn't make every leap and 1-dice blitz, but he also didn't fail any dice roll more than once and he made good use of the orcs' bad luck (and lack of speed) to score and score.
And suddenly the game was out of reach of an orc recovery. So while MrKilbane concentrated on trying to pick up a couple of last-minute casualties, I decided I needed to go for at least one completion. I ran one of the wardancers downfield, made some tricky dodges with the thrower in order to get to the ball...and then fumbled the pick-up once more.
Fortunately, MrKilbane used his final blitz on the downfield wardancer rather than the thrower, and as he couldn't knock him over, he was able to run into the endzone, leaving me with one final chance to get even a single passing yard...
Yes! a long bomb TD to end the game.
So 1 pass for 13 yards from two games for Briskbreeze. Somewhat pathetic, I have to say. Spiderplant picked up a single cas, although given that it was the chainsaw I was happy enough.
The 3-0 scoreline makes it look like it was a fairly one-sided game. It really wasn't. MrKilbane was a tough opponent who just wasn't able to get the good blocking results against the right elves. Had he taken even one of the wardancers out rather than the rookie lineman or the catchers, then it would have been a very different result. And I was extremely lucky that all the injuries were just BH. I'm sick of rebuilding.
Thanks for a fun game. And fast, too. ”
