I began what I knew was going to be a throw-fest by completing a typical two-turn TD pass long bomb. Then fallingdownjoe did exactly the same - except that even he's not as stupid as to run the catcher into the endzone first and risk some easy casualties for his opponent just because it looks better.
Then it was my turn for some useless dice. My legend of a passer managed to fumble the pick-up twice on the very first action of the turn (yes, I know it was my mistake to do that first, rather than hit someone with the tree or try stabbing someone with the star player), but I tend to be a bit stupid that way. Anyway, after leaving the ball lying around for the high elves to collect, and losing a couple of players to blocks, I then went and fumbled the wizard (by which I mean he did manage to get the fireball off, but failed to do any damage to any of the five high elves I'd targeted.
So after the high elves unsurprisingly scored, I was back to playing catch up. Which I managed to do by the half thanks to my run of bad dice suddenly drying up and fallingdownjoe not going for the one-turn TD.
But then he did get the ball back at the top of the second half, so I was still playing catch up, and now I was doing it with only half a team. But it's hard to stop the long bomb game (unless you're skaven). Mostly, you just have to wait for the inevitable failure of something along the way - the pick up, the throw, the safe throw, the catch, etc - and today nothing ever went wrong after that failed pick up. Not for either coach. Even in the rain and the bright sunshine.
But then there were two of the all-time great passers on the field and they both had a point to prove. In the end, fallingdownjoe threw two more passes, and made three more yards than me, but then as he allows other people on his team to have a go, Briskbreeze actually ended up with better numbers than Elf Marx!
But back to the game...
In the end it came down to fallingdownjoe needing the one-turn score for the win. He could have done it easily enough as well, but I rolled that most hateful of kick-off results - the perfect defence. So a draw it remained.
But what a draw. A total of 14 passes for 147 yards, and virtually every one of them was a long bomb.
Oh yeah, some other stuff happened as well. Spiderplant got a cas, Stormyweather lost some AV and poor old Lindir left the high elves for good.
And we both lost fans. Unbelievable. What game were they watching?”
