“Report by the FAMILY:
Second game vs. our nemesis Los Bakalas. This time it's really a mirror match, we even have the same TV. It's interesting to see the difference in development anyway. Their mummies are amazing (one with block and tackle and one with ST6). They have an extra zombie but no skills on any zombie or skeleton (we have kick, dirty player and wrestle). We both have an AG4 wights (ours has MV7 too). Our other wights, PRINCESS went full strenght with MB and guard, while theirs has strip ball and dodge. They only have three ghouls (blodge, sidestep blodge, and stripball sidestep dodge). We have four (wrodge, blodge MB8, blodge AV4, and rookie). It's hard to say on paper who is the favourite.
But we won the last game against them by disabling their mummies during the entire game. If we do the same we will surely win again.
We receive. Good. They setup with the mummies on the sides. Great. We can take one down and the other will not reach us for a few turns. The kick is out of bounds and delivered in the hands of AG4 blodger OLD SCHOOL UNCLE. Even if he gets pressured he will dodge out like an elf! We gang foul their ST6 mummy into KO. Good. But it's hard to take down the sidestepping blodging ghouls. RICH UNCLE (the wrestle ghoul) is KO'd (oh, we are going to miss him so much). The FAMILY could already score with 2 GFI's. But we know we have to stall a bit. So let's do that (probably a mistake?). The cage is a bit looser and the blocks don't do any damage. The opponent place their sidestepping stripballing ghoul next to the ball. Two blocks and we get a POW. But no armor break. The "cage" is oddly shaped now, and allows for all sorts of bad chain pushees against us. The turn ends with stripballers and sidesteppers next to the ball, and no easy path out. We think we can punch our way out of this one, but that's fishing for POWs and there is only so much one can ask Nuffle... the ball bounces back. A damned 1D blitz on THE ONE, who was in receiving position goes POW. No scoring threat next turn. MOM KO's a stripballer. Good. But there is a free corner and the other stripballer blitzes from there. A reroll grants the push, and the ball is now down. Their AG4 wights even picks it up but fails a dodge and the ball is there for the taking. One good block and we could be scoring this turn. But it's hard to get sidesteppers blodgers out of the way... The sidestepper chooses to get pushed into the ball and thee bounce is good. The bad guys put a ghoul in scoring position - they are getting cocky! But a 1D block goes skull to restore the order of things. And then the coach messes it up. THE ONE only needs to dodge, pick up the ball and run into TD. We still have a reroll. It's 64/81 success rate. But the coach thinks, "why dodge wheen I can punch?". 3D block and no POW. Now the bad guy is next to the ball. 2D blitz and no POW ("coach should we reroll? No let's keep it for the pickup..."). The sidestepper goes onto the ball. It bounces to THE ONE. Fail. But it's a spiked ball and he is KO. We should have dodged. We should definitely have dodged. Last turn and the baddies could technically score. but they don't. Phew.
After the depressing first half it's 10 vs. 11 against us. Kick in the middle on a side. A zombie goes KO. 9 vs. 11. They pickup the ball and hang in the back. We probably should have done something else, but PRINCESS blitzes a zombie and gets PRINCE free. We wait and maybe overcommit a bit too much north. It's turn 3 and they still haven't begun their offense. A whights hangs in the back with ball. We put some pressure. They retreat evem further. We follow and get a zombie out. The two teams are completely spread over the pitch. They manage to cluster a few players south and pass the ball to a ghoul. We are totally out of position now - it's going to be hard to stop them. We run after the ball. They still hang back with the ball in their half. Feels like they are going for passing plays. But we overcompensate and move too many players south. They can now hand-off and run north. They pass, if it works we will never catch them. But it fails and the spiked ball stuns a ghoul. But we are too far to be a real menace. We try anyway and put a player in scoring position. They blitz him and succeed. We won't score. They only have a ghoul in scoring range. With a dodge and two gfi he's behind the TD line. The whights dodges, picks up, goes for it twice and makes a short pass. Fail. Reroll. Good. The catch is good. Not an impossible play, but certantly not a safe one either. Touchdown and game.
We should have dodged in the first half. We definitely should have dodged.
