“NCBB Season 35 Game 5
Conference Game Non-AQ Group A
JSMB went into this match expecting a difficult game against the Texas Tech Red Reptiles as Lizardmen are quite fast and strong, making them difficult to contain for a more clumsy team like Nurgle.
However, there's nothing quite like pain to even the playing field and JMSB starts strong when on turn 2 they get a pair of KOs. Dale Hawerchoke is the one who takes out saurus Elliot Odyss with a mighty blow on his armor, while loner skink Edward Darkwing is taken out by Blade Divac. The ball moves up to the line in the hands of sure-handed beastman Terry Bradsaw.
Agile saurus Jude Tasden attacks the cage and avenges his skink buddy by knocking out Divac and pressuring the ball carrier. Bradsaw is forced to retreat in a backfield compromised by a Saurus and a skink. The skink Giovanni Corann is however tangled up with Reggie Blight and he ends knocking himself out attempting to dodge out of the tentacles.
Bradsaw gets back to the line of scrimmage, but JMSB sets up too tightly and the lizards are able to setup a chainpush that puts the ball carrier next to Brian Hosage who knocks it loose and gets the ball bouncing right in the hands of Carson Abu. The little fellow then manages to avoid a pow on 8 consecutive block dices and the Rotspawn fails going for it on an attempt to tangle him.
Abu then fails to dodge out of harms way, but another turnover immediately follows when Michael Slay-Han gets both down on a one dice block that would have freed Pavel Bury from Isaac Padricus's prehensile tail. Abu picks up again, but then the hand-off attempt to Jase Nucky fails because of the disturbing presence of Blight and ShaKill O'Neal.
Both teams are locked out of scoring for the remainder of the half, one must wonder if both teams have not abused the Molson Canadian freely provided to them pre-game. Still, a healthy dose of bashing is distributed with Hosage knocking out bloater Hawerchoke and Slay-Han badly hurting Parker Corphrim. Half ends at 0-0.
Second half starts with an 11 to 8 guy advantage for JMSB, with Odyss and Darkwing failed their KO rolls while Corann and Divac made theirs. The teams trade blows for the first two turns, but then Nucky sees an opening through the line and dashes for the opposite flank barely in reach of a blitz from JMSB. Dawson Poscidion knocks out Danae Moon, but that's not enough to prevent JSMB from freeing Die Young for the blitz on Nucky.
The blitz turns both down, badly hurting Nucky and stunning Young, which leaves the ball deep and now completely unguarded. Abu who was on the opposite flank goes to tag the ball along with Michael Mafar who had to blitz free to get there. Bury manages to retreat and knock down Mafar with the help of Young who has just regained his composure, but fails to pick up. That lets Abu attempt the pick up in Bury's tackle zone and dodge to the end zone, which succeeds with the help of a timely team re-roll. 1-0 for the Reptiles.
JSMB gets the ball back with 4 turns to score and now up 4 players, as both KO rolls fail again for coach HyperboLemuR. The stadium beer *VERY* looks suspect. Pestigors Divac and Bury make a push for the south flank and use their man advantage to tag each lizard. Big Krox Pardicus is able to free himself and he goes to tag Divac while Abu covers Bury.
JSMB continues putting up damage when on turn 6 Cal Ripskin Jr. badly hurts Corann, Hawerchoke knocks out Mafar and Young smashes Tasden's hand. The Texas team doctor immediately patches him up to ensure the saurus can play the next game.
With their opponents down to 4 players, JMSB does not need to attempt any type of risky pass play with no re-rolls so Bradsaw ends up taking it all the way with three beautifully executed gfi.
JMSB escapes with a tie and the Reptiles escape with no permanent damage. Props to the coach HyperboLemuR for doing a better job maximizing his opportunities and putting himself in good position to win until the very end despite the damage taken and terrible luck on KO rolls. ”
