Both teams had plenty of agility, and speed, but both decided to embrace the bash game. 1st half saw patriots receiving, quickly depitching a rookie. Marauders did not wait long, and depitched Lincoln Celtric. Although it was diagnosed as a KO, he never came back to the game.
Then the turns continued turns after turn, elimination after elimination. The breaking point was when Kendall Reyes failed to advance, forcing Pats players to foul Alf Quarnstrom. As it happened after the permanent injury to Valery Voronin, this sealed the drive more or less.
After 8 turns of grinding, Reggie Ragland scored. Rookies were set on the LOS plus goal line defense against 1 turning. Marauders eliminated 2 rookies in short order, then passed the ball to John Ross, who is a natural 1turner. He went for it, but did not advance past the goal line defense. Tackle was made.
Because Ross KOd himself, and Alf did not return, Marauders could not field 11. They did not manage to replicate the LOS bashing either, which sort of doomed their drive right from the start. Credit goes to Alex Ogletree, who managed a miracle play for the score, but it was way too early, Marauders way too beaten up, so the 2-1 grind was inevitable.
This was a high blocking game, almost 80! That, between competent teams and coaches, bounds to deal a lot of damage at some point. (Probably to both teams involved.)
On to the Thunderbolts, which is round9, right before midseason break.”
