“The first round of the Covid League was a more entertaining affair than the score line suggests, although I suspect both coaches will be satisfied with the final result. The pouring rain prevented the Arkham Archers from playing their preferred passing game, and also meant that early on in the game the Swinbrook Runners struggled to pick up the ball after they had chosen to receive the kickoff. This lead to the Archers getting the first score on the board. The Runners almost leveled immediately with a Gutter Runner almost getting to the end zone, only to be brutally knocked down and lose the ball. In the second half it was the Archers who struggled to pick up the ball and it left the pitch only to be thrown back in by the crowd on the oppositions half. A Gutter Runner took full advantage and this time they couldn't be stopped from leveling the score at 1-1. Both sides had changes in the last few turns but it ended at 1-1, with 3 dead players and 2 other casualties. What a start to the season!!”
