After having pushed through without playing, Dyrinor's Drifting Dolphins faced the monstrous Khorne of Embutidos y Salazones in round 2. But we had a wizard, and that had to count for something.
Khorne received the ball and started advancing. An illegal substitution gave the elves some more resilience. By turn two the time was ripe for the fireball. And boy, what a fireball it was. All 4 targets got hit! Two players were removed from the pitch, including Genocider (a superstar claw/mighty blow khorngor) and Cornucopio (legend ballcarrying khorngor), who even got killed (but then was half-saved by the apothecary).
A fireball hitting 4 players, including the ballcarrier, is a tide-turning event. The ball was recovered and Nuffle was with the elves when we survived 2d on the ball. The rest of the first half was a fairly easy stall until turn 8. We even managed to remove 5 khornites while losing only 2 elves ourselves. The world upside down!
Things looked excellent at halftime with the prospect of receiving the ball in the second half. Perfect defense made us lose the initiative though. Things got worse when the ST5 tentacled khorne warrior Termosellador managed to glue himself to Thularin, who was carrying the ball. When Caoran, on his way to liberate Thularin, snaked a dodge, things started looking grim indeed. How was this possible? In only three turns all the advantage seemed lost.
A few seconds later Thularin was knocked out. The impossible had happened, the elves had lost control and the ball. By turn four Khorne had equalized: 1-1 and four turns to go. We had still 11 players though (with even a reserve on the bench), while Embutidos y Salazones meanwhile had been reduced to 8 players. The world upside down indeed!
The remaining turns were not that difficult, although at some point we survived an acrobatic attack resulting in 2d on the ball. But it ended well and the Dolphins go on to the final!
Thanks to Arturidas for an entertaining game!
