“[SL]UMBBL Shield XIX (?): final:

Dyrinor's Drifting Dolphins faced Ecstacy and Agony in the final. Facing 7 claws (3 with mighty blow on top of it) and 6 hypnotic gazes looked like an uphill battle for the slow sea elves. But we had some backup from a wizard, a wandering apothecary, two bloodweiser babes and a couple of tricks up our sleeve. That had to count for something too!

The Daemons of Slaanesh won the toin coss, but decided to kick, betting on the mass hypno ball steal, which already happened in turn 1. Coaran blitzed the ball loose again, but Thularin failed a dodge on his way to recover it. Next turn Coaran liberated the ball again, only to lose it one turn later once more. Meanwhile elves were getting removed from the pitch and we had already spent all our rerolls. Luckily the daemonettes decided to stall. The time for the wizard to intervene had come. Both daemonettes got hit by the fireball, including the ballcarrier. This time Thularin put his AG6 to good use. He recovered the ball and lobbed it right into the hands of Dolthaic, who had been eagerly waiting for it in the middle of the field. What a gamechanger! Instead of 0-1, all of a sudden it was 1-0 in turn 7. Two remaining turns did not suffice to equalize. The Dolphins even managed to maim Mistress of Endless Tickles in turn 8. Cultist Valreen decided to follow his mistress to the new world by committing suicide on the pitch. Suddenly things looked good.

The second half couldn't have started better since the Dolphins received a Blitz! Meanwhile Thularin pulled that trick from his sleeve and started throwing bombs around. Nevertheless Ecstacy and Agony managed to slip through the elf line fairly easily and equalized in turn 4: 1-1 with another four turns to go. The ref even allowed Thularin to continue throwing his explosive runes.

That backfired though, when he snaked the throw in turn 1 of the second half, knocking himself out of the game. Luckily no other elves got hit. By turn 6 Ethandril pushed through, but when Thelion got gazed this opened up the route to a 2d blitz. Ethandril lost the ball and nearby cultist Quala caught it. Time for Caoran to intervene. He leaped over the defense, blitzed the ball out of Quala's hands, picked it up and ran in the winning touchdown: 2-1 for the Dolphins. With 3 sidesteppers on the line of scrimmage, the oneturner was doomed to fail.
