"YOU DON'T PLAY BLOOD BOWL ON PAPER!"
In the pre-match press conference, Coach Wilson was asked about the Cardinals' issues with missing players, having suffered several injuries in their previous game. Wilson's response was 'You don't play Blood Bowl on paper or in the dressing rooms or in your goddamned newspapers! You play the team in front of you and I've been in this game for decades and I know your never rule out Kislevites!'
The fiery riposte was translated into some standing battles on the pitch itself. In the first half alone, 7 Unicorns took a beating - Dent, Leboucher, Giza, van Buuren (injured by LaRath), Montfort (k/od by himself), and Thornhill all spent time recuperating on the team bench. In contrast, the Cards suffered a red card for Duad and an injury to AJ Brown from Gryson. However, the hosts went in 1-0 up through Hill and it looked as if it would be uphill from then on for the Unicorns.
The second half began in a more cagey fashion before the Kislevites unleashed more anguish on their visitors. Captain Ottmar Wirt got up close and personal with the fans; whilst he escaped unscathed he lost his shirt, left boot, and jockstrap to the desperate, partisan supporters.
Then the shocking moment that will mark this game as one for the ages. Tancred 'The Tank' Montfort - the number one restructure pick for the Übersreik franchise - found himself isolated from the pack. Arion Hill, who had already put a stake in the Unicorn heart, blitzed the Bretonnian blitzer. Not anticipating too much from the 65-game veteran blitzer, who has played in six different iterations of the Cardinals franchise, Montfort was caught off guard. The block, which knocked him unconscious, sadly also ended his life. Montfort played just 5 games for the Unicorns, picking up a touchdown and MVP on his debut.
After that, further bloodshed ensued. Murias was ko'd by Giza, before he suffered the same fate from Wilchell. Lobato suffered a broken arm from a mercenary ogre and Barry Gryson was ko'd by, guess who? Arion Hill.
However, Rafa Brigante managed to equalise at the very end.
Whether it was a valuable point despite the relentless violence or if it was a costly draw which will be rued for eternity depends on where the Unicorns end up at the end of the season.”
