Really good opportunity to play against a solid Goblin coach. Chainsaw removed 2 goblins in the first half, but had an early score, so was able to score back. 2nd half missed the pick up and thought it was safe until a goblin was thrown over my line and a scrum for the ball ensued. It looked like he had it locked in until a failed dodge on the goal line. Recovered the ball and it looked like I had it relatively safe. He was able to pressure me after a very effective bomber throw. There was one corner of the cage free that he had to dodge, and rush to mark the carrier. He still had to mark all the corners of the cage, and dodge into the cage, but he got it and I lost the ball. Decent bounce for me though and I had it once again in a relatively safe situation. I thought we might be able to cage up again, but he managed to blitz the ball again with several dodges. Lost it and he recovered. Last chance to play for the draw I managed to get his ball carrier marked well, but he chain pushed the carrier out , and was able to pull away from the slow black orcs with no problems. Attempted to throw my own goblin to catch him, but it was too late.
Tactical Takeaways
- I may need to review how stunty works with dodging. It seemed in many instances he was able to dodge in and out of situations, but the rolls he needed weren't ridiculous.
- I need to be aware of the ability of a troll to throw a goblin. I've generally thought of it as a last ditch only 1TTD thing, but in his case it ended up being very effective. This is especially true with me playing Black Orcs.
- Remove the chain saw as a top priority, and protect your high value players when it's around. I left my sneaky git goblin right in the open to get maimed.
- Vomiting is a viable tactic especially against higher strength opponents - 1D blocks, blodgers. I managed to take out his fanatic which would've been -2D if not for the vomit”
