1. Resilient Elves
A lot of credit has to be given to the elf player to playing to his outs. I thought this game was over after the 2nd turn, and one of the great things about being elves is that there are almost always outs. Through a series of very wild plays he managed to get back into it, and nearly win. It's something I wish were more true with Black Orcs, but it just isn't the case. We're too slow and too easy to tag down.
2. Removals
Late in the game the removal situation really started to slant in our favor. Eventually it felt like he was to shot on players to put up a defense. Also, we had a crucial stun at the end of the game on his war dancer that was very important to the eventual draw.
3. Surfing for Removals
I'm not overly skilled at surfing yet I don't think, but I managed some surfing action that played a very big role in us still being able to press ahead.
4. Planning for failure, even if unlikely
There was a turn where I blitzed early with one of my black orcs because I knew all I needed was at least a push. I landed the double skull with no re-rolls and could've been punished for not standing up the rest of the team. We luckily got away with it, but it was close. There were several drives ended this game with double skulls, specifically with players with block. I just need to make sure I have a plan in the eventuality that an action fails regardless of how unlikely.
