1. Receive, Bash, and Foul
We were lucky to get the ball first, and start the grindy process of bashing and fouling. We were very lucky to do well on not getting caught on our fouls. Finished the first half with 4 removals, including a blodger. The removal swing was heavily in our favor and it gave us a huge advantage throughout the game.
2. Do Not Base a Cage Corner
1st Half Cage around turn 5 or 6 we based a cage corner and were punished for it. Opponent was able to get his 2 assists, take out the corner and come in with the blitz. We had a lucky bounce right on the edge of our cage, and were able to recover, but this was a classic mistake that I've made multiple times. Do not base cage corners.
3. 2nd Half Defense
Lined up in a chevron to take away the side cage and it worked very well. Forced the opponent into multiple 1D blocks, they were all successful, but he had to commit a good deal to get those 1D blocks, and it left several players in base contact to start the turn. Already with the number advantage I was less interested in fouling. Opponent drove towards a sideline, but got walled in fairly effectively. Opponent attempted to reverse field with a 5+ pass, but wasn't able to make the completion. Advantageous scatter for us allowed us to cage up and grind our way down for the score.
4. Actions Out of Order, Nearly a Draw
Once the second half cage was rolling it seemed like the game was over. Casualties were still piling up for the opponent and it seemed like a lock. I should've gotten the ball out of range before throwing any blocks, but instead I started looking for SPP blocks, and 1/9'ed. Gave the opponent a clean shot at the ball, but luckily for us they weren't able to get the goblin down. These actions easily could've left the game at a draw. Playing too loose.
