#1 Graham Ormiss – Seriously Hurt (MNG)
Tactical Takeaways-

1. Sweepers Back

The Skaven were able to break through our line, and when they did so we only had one back deep to defend it. It makes more sense to have 2. Also an unskilled runner makes things difficult as well. Be hesitant to commit the runner on defense. Let him stay back, unless the ball is loose or you have a clear shot at the ball.

2. Always a Chevron on the sideline for defense if possible.

I lined up square on the sideline and gave my opponent a pretty easy 2D block to get around the edge. If instead that is a Chevron, specifically an unmarked chevron the options of getting around the edge become more difficult.

3. Stacked Edge on Offense, Screen vs. Strong Line

I've been liking the stacked edge on offense because the options for assists are very difficult. It does often make it easier for the defense to get outside of your line and to you cage which is something to consider. I'd say generally we want a wide line with a cage behind the line. If at all possible we don't want the cage as a part of the line or screen.

4. Blitzes on Cage Corners

Once the cage starts moving it becomes difficult to prevent blitzes on corners. In the back half of the second half this became nearly constant. This is going to happen but I'd say you can limit it by attempting to keep screens in place, and marking where you can, specifically the high value blitzing targets.

5. Chain Push to Free the Beard

We did have one nice play where I was able to chain a long beard out to mark the carrier that eventually led to a 1/9 with no re-roll. Lucky on our end, but those shapes are starting become more apparent to me: squares and Ts. Excited to be getting better at that.
