It is good timing, as I had just come from a game where there was discussion of poor dices.

I did not see it in the previous game, but I did see it for my opponent in this game. 56% of armour breaks resulted in removals. I have not seen this before.

5 failed dodges out of 31 attempts is standard, however critical timing of fails allowed dwarves some comfort in their offensive drive.

So.. an analysis. The Coach Dreek was a pleasure to play alongside and did ask me for advices. So I look from this perspective: what actions of the elves made my life as dwarf coach tricky, or easy? And what actions would have given me most concern.

From the outset, I can say, there was more contact than I have come to expect from facing elf coaches. I did surely push into this. But that was my feel. Now to look to replay:

1. Elf boat set up protects well, but is not as reactive. It may have given me more issues for an offset, G'Day Nick set up, to which I put a link, courtesy of the Great Coach Jackassrampant https://fumbbl.com/p/notes?op=view&id=9793

2. The pressure put on my dwarves was good. Chipping corner cages away. I would have more issue with a 'double base' on ball carrier. However I do know with the guard we had, and numbers advantage, it was tough.

But elves do give me the most issues when they are up in my face. Aggressive.

3. On attack, the elves do work us side to side like a wobbly tooth. We are only just able to cover them, slow moving dwarves, through some positioning which this coach is improving. However...

4. Dwarf T5 leaves a diagonal for the 1(!) remaining elf to dodge through. We need many dice rolls to cover, and a lucky put down. 6x GFI and a successful block was a 45% chance... wow, dwarves were lucky and punished for poor position well by the elf.

Summary: I really do think the removals played a part. We had too much guard and block, and rolled well on armour. The tactics were solid from my opponent, and Nuffle did touch this game in favour of the Dwarf.

#1 Falanda Charford – Serious Injury (NI)
#9 Hadiro Sipher – Seriously Hurt (MNG)
Thank you greatly for the advice, it is much appreciated.

My notes on the advice given

1) I will certainly look at that link, this is really my first real attempt at elves, so I am very much learning.

2) I feared losing more players with a double base was why I had not gone on it, and the cage always had good guard placement discouraging me. It still may have been right to double base. My plan had been to try to strip the ball at the last moment with the strip ball dancer, since by chance the blitzer had the ball instead of the runner. Unfortunately the strip baller was eliminated.

As a note for that plan, it seems to me not using a reroll on the dodge that exposed the strip baller may have been my biggest mistake, he was the most important piece and I needed to protect him. On the other hand, I was also considering I needed rerolls for the important strip ball turn, so hard to say.

3+4) I had a reasonable score chance about half way through the half, but elected to retreat to try to force the tie. Unsure still if this was the right move or not. The suboptimal positioning of the dorfs to block the war dancer on the second to last turn was the only real mistake I'd say I saw my opponent make, but didn't matter in the end.

Well played game by my opponent, and I think dorfs getting the ball first was very helpful to them to make my scoring drive harder. Coach took good advantage of their team's strengths and removals for the win. Will be glad to play again sometime.
