The Mary's Land Terrible Terrapins secured a surprising 1-1 draw against the undefeated Rutgers Scarlet Hauers lead by the talented coach JackassRampant. While a draw against the league leaders certainly is something to be celebrated, Coach Lancelott was visibly frustrated after the game, cursing his team's inability to pick up the ball.
"We won't get many more chances to make the playoffs and we gave up a beautiful chance to get our 5th victory in this game. I know this game started with a storm but our players are used to that type of weather. We're going to be practicing picking up the ball this week."
The Terrapins started out with the ball, moving it swiftly down the field. However, David Damascus (major - biomechanics) was too aggressive with his push and the star Floris von Rosemund quickly puts the chameleon skink down and, despite a desperate push by the skinks, was able to pick up the ball and run down the field. Due to a couple of stumbles in the mud, caused by the pouring rain, the Hauers were able to move the ball down the field. A desperate chase by the Terrapins ensued, however the Saurus' armor proved paper thin and the Hauers scored at the end of the half.
With the Terrapins kicking to the Hauers to start the second half, it looked like another loss was inevitable. However, when the Terrapins pushed hard to one side of the pitch, Floris von Rosemund who was carrying the ball saw an opening and ran to flip the pitch. As he was running to the opposite side of the pitch, Floris looked up to the crowd in order to flash his trademark 'noble' smile, and this proved his downfall. The blitzer tripped on the extra burst of energy, coughing up the ball to the waiting skink Jaxson Airy (major - economics) who was (surprisingly) able to scoop up the ball and run it down the field. While Jaxson tried to burn some time, the other noble Roy Batty, was able to dodge away from two skinks to push Jaxson into the endzone.
With only a quarter left to play both teams were on edge to try and secure the win. The rain was pouring down as the Hauers collected the ball. It was then when the Hauers' armor started failing them. As the half wound down four retainers, one bodyguard and both of the blitzers had been knocked out of the game! However, the rain proved too much as both Daivd Damascus as well as Bentley Trappe (major - spear construction) failed to pick up the ball before time ended.
In the end, the team has to be happy with a draw against such a dominate team. This is tempered by there only being one more game to make the playoffs and the imposing Cairo St Crypts standing in their way. Will they be able to do it? Find out this Saturday Night as the Terrapins will be co-headlining the game of the week! ”
