Welcome to to the Southern Wastes. Can I start you off with a blitz! or perhaps a nice failed ghoul dodge into KO?
Sonny Bull Williams, the slayer of Treemen, had us on edge. The early blitz! event gave the Bullgoats excellent opportunity to pressure us, and exert their strength dominance.
The Canetoads had to fight their way out, and survive 3x separate sack attempts, the first two of which were successful. Unfavourable 1d blocks were forced, and essential ball pick ups were re rolled.
We positioned so that sack was only possible with multiple gfi attempts, however none of these failed. The 3rd sack was only pushes, and we did find a way to score in the end.
For the 2nd game in a row, our Mummy Webke manages to casualty Sonny Bull. A rivalry begins.
Learnings
1. CALM UNDER PRESSURE
It is true, things looked bleak, and the game seemed beyond us after the first two turns.
But, our MB did kick in a little, and we were lucky in that we did not have bad luck on one dice blocks and pick ups (although re rolls were required) and also quite good fortune on ball scatters (after being sacked).
Stay calm, and look for best option. Plan for fail state, and if Nuffle wills it, it shall happen.
2. GHOULS WILL BREAK
We have now had many ghoul removals from failed dodges, or gfi. Also, the pows do find our blodgers. We must think of them as dispensable tools and not grow too attached to them. These pixels are not for hugging.
3. SMART FOUL
We are able to execute a smart foul. That is, one with mathematics behind it. Dirty Player, with 4 assists, on a higher value target, with a numbers advantage, at the correct time of the game. It works, but it is also important to recognise it is the right move, even if it does not work.
4. BALL FOCUS
On offence, we had to play full focus on protecting the ball after blitz! event. There was no other priority, and it did work out in the end.
On defence, we shifted strategy from Trial of Blood pre season, and played more aggressively towards the loose ball and ball carrier.
This focus worked well, although our casualty count was below average perhaps as a result. But then again, 35 blocks with MB is still a good innings, even if ROI of 2 CAS is a little poor.
Summary
The Southern Wastes brings great adversity. We are able to survive this, our toughest match in terms of strength disadvantage. Smaller beings with great and powerful mega star friends await...”
