“They say the way for improvement is to play better coaches. This is always the case against Great Coach Java, always learning something.
One thing I have learned these past few games is to roll better dice. It does help, and certainly the blessing of Nuffle was once again on my side.
It was not a clean game from me. Elite coaches can magnify and exploit any small mistake. I will see what we did OK before what we learned from Java.
UNDEAD
1. BALL COLLECTION
It was a tricky kick, and we screened with 'air pockets' in case ball pick up failed. This did change our LOS blocking, no longer diagonal, to free up Mummy 2d blitz, which was also not ideal. This forced us to press bodies into contact to deny easy counter blocks.
2. MUMMY MARKING
We pushed the mummy into contact, ahead of our cage. Java is too smart, and finds 1db to pow down both our mummies, KO on one. The pressure was great, and we were forced into less than ideal contact. Our opportunity to protect mummy was denied by our opponent, but it is something to improve.
3. T-SHAPE
We found a T-shape to block into, pushing an elf (not the team, just one elf) outside of scoring distance. A small victory.
ELVES
1. DEFENCE
Wow. The combination of flat lines, diagonal protection, L-shapes. A work of art.
2. 2-TURNER
It did not arrive do to luck on side of Undead (many gfi and 1db arriving for them) but it was excellent to see how the opportunity was created, along with a contingency plan.
3. 2db CREATION
We were out bashed, 30 elf blocks to 29 Undead blocks. The ability to create positions but blitzing and assisting was terrific.”
