We thought we knew adversity, but this was another level.
The Gnomes of the SWL are a level above, and the coach Irgy out plays us. There is little we can do to compete.
Tipping Point #1. Turn 2 of 1st half we decide to attempt ball sack without first marking potential score threats. It costs us the touchdown.
Tipping Point #2. Turn 3 of 1st half we leave our ball carrier within bomb range. It is only 3+... Our ghoul dies, ball sacked, and we are scored on.
After this, the game is over. Not much more to say. With this style of team there is no chance left. Perhaps an elf team could compete, but not slow Undead.
Learnings
1. BALL SAFETY
Take the ball back. Get it out of range of bombs, and blitzes. It was a terribel mistake, once again.
2. ORDER OF OPERATIONS
Why roll dice, then do a safe move? This cost us the first touchdown. Mark players, then roll dice. I think we thought we could have a player free for recovery, but.... the downside was worse than the potential upside.
3. DEATH
Again, a ghoul dies. We have had deaths from failed dodge, failed gfi, block, and now bomb. Foul is next I suspect.
4. BLOCKING
We are heavily out bashed by a superior coach. It makes me think, did we engage enough? If we can't block, we can't get removals, and this proved to be the case this game.
Summary
To have lost the game so quickly, I think shows poor decision making in the first half. Tidy up those decisions, and we can improve.
The loss, lack of casualties, deaths etc. do mean the season is over for the Canetoads. We had ambitions of a title win, or perhaps even helping a player to make most TD or CAS. These hopes are now dashed, and we will have to invent some new reasons to play on.”
