“A match against Java is always a great lesson in Blood Bowl.
I think, there was perhaps a natural advantage for the Orcs, holding some superior strength and speed and able to face up to the bash game.
THOUGHTS:
1. CONTROL
Java pushed his dwarves towards a corner edge on defence, controlling it masterfully. The positioning and GUARD really shut down that edge of the field. It was like a cancer growing on the Orcs, and forced panic.
2. BIG ORC DOWN
When I first tried Dwarves, trying to make life a little easier, I played into Coach SickAsEggs and his Orcs. He kept S4 orcs on outside. I tried similar, but Java did great work knocking down and isolating them from the game. The south side was locked down.
3. ZEN
We tried a relaxed mindset. Much easier when expectations for performance are low. The TIME OUT turn timer went forwards, and we failed pick up 3x in a row, but held protection, and LOS space. We did blitz to the south to try and rescue some players, before finally securing the ball.
4. SILLY GAME
Yeah, this is a silly game. A dwarf failed 1/9 dodge made our job of scoring much easier. And some critical orc dodges, with a frustrating 1db pow on ball carrier which really should not have succeeded at only 44% success, stopped the dwarf score. Remember this. ”
