“I got kinda frustrated with this one so I had to simmer down and think about things. Once agin, no shame in losing to Artemis and I can always learn from him (her? who knows, I assume nothing).
First half I had to kick and I do not like kicking with khorne. I always lose at least one off the line to start, and this slow team that I cant ocmpletely control usually has to feal with a full compliment of 11 players that are all faster for the most part.
At one point on the first drive, quad skulls gave me some really good hope. I followed up the next turn with about 3 removals. I was almost in control, BUT, count on the big guy to fail a key block to push the pile and get the ball back.
Second drive, I had a decent venga bus. But folks mostly just base the cage and say "bring it". And with khorne, its easy to frenzy trap. I wanted to do a larger screen instead BUT the ball was kicked too deep so I worked with what I had. I had a chance on T6 to do a blitz and move into a screen woth scoring capability. BUT flubbed a block (BD/BD) and the faster team recovered (as they should).
anomalies:
I rolled twice as many skulls as any other result except for pushes - lucky me.
I was again the only player in the game that failed a rush.
Personally, I really want this one back. I finally had a chance and then dice just went down the drain - such is the game we choose to play.
Takeaways
- I liked my defense. I think even if the quad skull didnt do it, I may have forced a T6 score which is success - esp for khorne V zons and no tackle.
- I dont know what to do when the ball is kicked deep because it forced me into a cage. I couldnt screen the other team to one side. I might try deploying 5 players deep next time.
- Big guy was brutal to ME - too many key failures. Claws never went off on the str 4 zons. But I dont know if thats a weakness in having him, or maybe hes just not built for this matchup?
- First time Artemis didnt just foul me to death - a REPRIEVE.
- I always try to focus on what I can control, but I think at the end of the day, this is just a poor matchup for khorne. Too much blodge with my only answer being to fish for defender downs.
