“A silly game, quite fun for elves, but highly fortunate.
First time trying an elf team, and it was great fun to try for plays I would not dream of for other teams.
It is amazing what an extra point of agility makes to the coaching mentality, as well as higher movement.
But, honestly, the deep kicks for the elves, a silly SEVEN failed consecutive pick ups for the goblins, and a very large number of skulls for the orcs, helped us here. Plus the elven BS on dodges and pick ups.
We were average on 1s rolled, dodges failed, but above average in durability I feel.
Match highlight was dodging, sacking, Black Orc. Twice. Magical.
LEARNINGS:
1. AGGRESSION
It is correct with Dark Elves, I think. Attacking the back field. Failed ball pick ups, and deep kicks, help for sure.
But penetrating back field on defense worked well. Am not sure if my balance was correct. Geggster on his scoring drive certainly used grab well to separate the elves from the ball carrier. Tinkering required.
2. BASING
We based a great deal, and early on, on order to limit orc positioning and eat their activations away from the main play.
We are lucky it didn't backfire with mass casualties. Very lucky, and had Nuffles dice been in favour of the orcs it could have been ugly. Be careful, Jambon. These are not zooombies or AV10 orcs.
3. ELF BS
As mentioned, the mentality of the coach changes. Dodges are expected to succeed, so we do many of them. Picking up a ball in a tackle zone does not seem so bad, so why not try it?
We even tried to use frenzy a little to surf. It was a bad move, not smart, required GFI, didn't need frenzy, and was 1db (oops). We watch too much AndyDavo.
Cage dive, 1db needing POW, and the witch finds it. Silly, really.
SUMMARY
Elves did not die, not large amounts of 1s, and it was fun. We must learn better when to fight, and when to dash, and how to do each of these better.
Protection was not good. We are lucky our witch is not dead, and we suffered no casualties. Can do better here for sure.
No illusions here, we were very lucky, Orcs were unlucky, Nuffle decided the game, but it was fun and that is something that counts, and something that we have lost in the past. ”
