First half I received. The initial blocks with block/MB did nothing. My plan was to score early and then maybe on an early turn, force my opp on 2 back to back scoring drives. Mut my 3 plus pick, to a 2 plus didge for a score didnt work, 2 gutters got tossed off the pitch because if it, and the vamps eventually just ran down and scored.
Sweltering heat took out the rogre on a much needed defense. I was down to about 4 players and managed a skaven pick up, hand off, for a score on my opps possession early. It gave me a chance. But sweltering heat was hitting me hard than my opp as I lost my wr/sb gutter on the next drive.
I popped the ball loose once and put some rats next to it. But, no defense is ever good enough for vamps, esp with 5 RRs, they just picked it up. I lost a few skaven to thrall hits by now so attrition was a killer plus the heat. I tried a few 1 die blitzes on the st4 blodge vamp to no avail. And maybe when I would get in its way in the lats turn, rush fail, cas. Even had I made it, you just gaze the players tagging and walk in.
Frustrating loss - especially since it looked like I could come back in the second half. Ggame would have been very different if I didnt snake the pick up on T3. Woulda coulda shoulda.
Takeaways:
- The risky offense was by design. Failing a 3 plus RR and a 2 plus dodge RR for a score would have made for a very different game. I played the odds and lost out there.
- Im always on the backfoot with vampires when I receive. I havent fogured out how to play against them with this.
- Vampires for me , remain the least fun team to play against. Way too much mitigation for easy die rolls, and my best strat with them is to set up in a way that when they sack the ball carrier, hopefully the ball lands in a favorable spot. I really hate playing against them because my decisions dont matter - I have no agency in stopping them and I cant make the hypno any more difficult.
- Historically I have done very poorly with skaven in the box. But this team was not made with the box strategy in mind if trimming down the roster. I'm going to try that next time.
Coach played a great game - would def play again. ”
It's funny, from my perspective it was a similar list of things I struggled with as well
The heat took out both of my runners, twice i think? (although they played 15/16 turns so must have been end of halves)
The rogre BH both of my throwers, regen failed on the first so I used apoth on the 2nd which did work
I kept failing loads and loads of BLs
Anyway maybe the reason we both think dice were against us, was that it's a high variance game - we're both needing to roll loads of dice, so inevitably a lot of them are fails
I had 1 extra bench, and it's worth noting that the on-pitch numbers were either the same, or +1 to me, for almost the whole game
Vamps being OP, yea sure they can be unstoppable, but they have to be coached well AND roll decent dice to pull it off. winrates aren't good, 48%. Skaven are higher at 53% and the matchup favours skaven - https://fumbbl.com/p/rosterstats?y=2024
Being not fun to play against, yea I can see that. when it's working, you can't stop them
Anyway thanks for the game
Oh and, str4 runner really helped. first game with +str and it's great”
