“This was a good bounce back from a few games of failure, especially for these orks that can never seem to get a break normally.
First half I had to kick. I set my line about a third of the way in and waited for my opp to move forward, taking little stabs at his thralls. This forced him to use RRs and thralls to move the ball. I based I think around T4 or 5 and made sure my higher str guys based the vampires. This forces them to roll BL for a dodge or a hit. I kept a few back, almost 5 players I think and a few moved in from the front. After I based his team near the sidline, he used a 1 die block to open up some blocks and dodges for a score. By now, hes eaten 2 thralls and another is KOd and I had 3 turns to score.
I set up forward a bit, with some orks in the backfield - more than usual because I know whats coming. I flubbed the pickup. Hi vampire runner easily got in and took the ball. This required a few hypnos so he based my players which allowed me to block the ball carrier down. I did a risky pass T7 because I knew I wasnt scoring if I didnt move it somewhere forward. Plus vamps could just get up, re-sack the thrower, and score again. It actually worked which was nice. I tried to get the troll to know his thrall down to open a land for a goblin handoff. BUT no dice, just a push. So I set the goblin and him forward, ready for the inevitable ball sack and attempt at recovery. But Nuffle gave me a 1 on the dodge for christmas and I walked in for a TD.
Second half, I caged up, with some extra players around it and I know the carrier was going to get sacked. So I put him in a line of 3 in the front and put some more players back (careful not to clog every hole). And he got sacked but it was a lusty turn that cost RRs and some thralls. I knocked dow a few more vampires, murdered one that I think regened, cant remember. But it quickly turned into having 11 players to his 6 and with no RRs, he ran his players away to preserve the team.
Takeaways:
- Setting up FOR an inevitable sack is working well against vamps. Ive always had issues with them but Im playing better versus them now.
- Goblin on an ork team is just so necessary on offense.
- I fear propires more than vampires with actual skills.
- Unless its kick or DP, not sure if skills are worth it on thralls?
Fun game as always with this coach - would def play again. ”
“Great bounce back game indeed coach. I will add I like at least putting BLOCK on Thralls to maybe give them a lil more weight in their punch, but besides that, DP and KICK are a must.
Well played. ”
