At long last we meet a team in the Southern Wastes with similar TV. The Skaven have been gnawing on the warpstone and grown strong.
No mega stars to worry about, but some legendary threats in the one turning gutters and powerful rogre.
Winning this game was about attrition, so we played to it. Our ghouls were also pleased to see the tackling rat was missing this game.
The skaven scored effortlessly, and quickly. We were able to trundle up the field, and lucky to protect the ball, attempting to thin the vermin horde.
Learnings
1. SET UP
We set up with a kind of wide boat, hoping the width would allow us to pressure any push down the sideline.
Instead, the push came, and we could not respond to all the threats. Perhaps a chevron is better, but offers less protection to our positionals.
Still, the mummies were open for blitzing, and potential fouling. Space Invader set up may be better. Ponder on this.
2. FOULING
A part of our game we are trying to improve, and we certainly gave it a good shot this game.
Our new dirty sneak ghoul KO'd the rogre on T2 which was huge. This allowed us to pressure more, and lean into more fouling removal.
8 fouls in total, 4 KOs and 1 seriously injured gutter. Good return, and no send off.
3. PROTECTION
With rats, we needed to make sure the ball was well protected, not left on the ground without support, and protected in a cage.
We did this reasonably well. Could have placed guard better on cage corners in some turns.
Rats T8 of first half there was a clever chain pushing play to blitz out ball carrier. 7% chance with re roll, did not come off. But smart.
Even better, was the T5 2nd half play with wrestle stripper (sounds fun..). It was a cage dive, 13% play with re roll that came off! Fortunately, we rolled our own 6 to catch the scatter.
Summary
Canetoads were lucky the ghouls survived the hits they took, and the foul game came off.
Let's see how they fare against Morg and Bomber in the remaining games. There is sure to be some TV trimming either way.”
